Child of the Week: Kailyn

KailynKailyn is 8 and the youngest of four kids. Her mom is a single parent and works full-time. Because Kailyn is the youngest, she sometimes feels she doesn’t get enough of her mom’s attention, even though she makes an extra effort.

Kailyn gets along pretty well with her brothers and sister but sometimes she likes to boss them around. Her big brother Daniel is her protector and says Kailyn is an awesome kid, even if she sometimes talks too much.

Kailyn is a super-active kid who loves school and has lots of friends there. Her mom thinks a Big Sister or Couple who understand the importance of school can help her know when it is okay to be more talkative and when being a better listener would help. Kailyn’s mom wants her to have a Big who can keep up with her and maybe speak some Spanish, because that’s what her grandparents speak.

Kailyn has been wanting a Big for a long time now, since her brothers both have one and they seem to have a lot of fun. She’d like someone who wants to go to the zoo or a carnival, eat pizza, go to movies, museums, fly kites and do just about anything outside. Some other things she’d like to try are bowling, swimming, photography, arts and crafts, gardening, and looking at the stars.

How matches happen Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters is funded by your donations, and it costs about $1,000 to match a child. The Match Advisor works with the child, parent/guardian and potential Big to find the best possible match for all involved.

January is National Mentoring Month, and we would like to honor and thank our wonderful Bigs who have made such a difference in their Little’s lives.
