The Chunglo family has a strong desire to help others. The parents, Doug and Rachel, believe it is valuable for their girls to experience volunteering at a young age. Their desire for helping others and sharing that experience with their girls transpired into becoming a Big Family through YBBBS. Their little, Tim age 7, is being raised by a single father. Rachel met Tim when she was his kindergarten teacher at Miller Valley School. He did not have a consistent female role model in his life prior to being matched with the Chunglo family. Ultimately, the Little’s needs and the Family’s wants molded this awesome relationship.
The Chunglos are an active family and Tim likes to be active. It was easy to include him in family outings on the weekends. The family and Tim participate in many community activities such as reading at the library, walking with Big Brothers Big Sisters in the annual Christmas parade, and visiting the gingerbread village. They also enjoy bowling, going to the zoo, and the movies. Since being matched with the Chunglo family, Tim has become a part of their positive family interaction. Doug and Rachel’s girls are very involved in this match as well. Although they are younger than Tim, all enjoy playing with him.
The best Bigs bring their Littles into their everyday lives. All it takes is 8 hours a month to show a child a better world.
