Hailey definitely is an 11-year-old who doesn’t need to follow the crowd.
Case in point, when her dad recently nixed the idea of Halloween costumes as either Sans from the Undertale video game, or Freddie from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, she concocted her own “Forsaken Soul” costume. “I was glad I changed my mind because there were two other Freddies and several Sans at the party,” she says.
The sixth-grader moved to Prescott a year ago with her dad, younger brother and a young cousin. She has limited contact with her mother, who lives in another state. Her cousin has fun with his Big Brother, so Hailey and her brother are excited to get matches of their own. Soon, they hope.
Hailey likes drawing, video games and movies. With a Big Sister, Hailey would like to go to the park, see movies, and “make stuff” – something else she’s good at. “I’m creative,” she notes as her greatest strength. Hailey has painted pottery and has a bracelet making kit, and likes to use her favorite color, red, in her designs. She also really enjoys drawing “random stuff” – especially cartoon characters.
She hasn’t lived in the area long enough to make many friends, or join a Girl Scout troop or a Tae Kwan Do class to replace her activities in her previous city. She does play the violin in her school orchestra, but wishes she could take art instead, and keep playing the violin on her own. Oh, and she hates shots.
Anyone interested in being a Big to Hailey or another child, or in referring a potential Little, can call Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters at 928-778-5135, or if you can’t be a Big, how about supporting a Big?
