JOB OPENING: Part-Time Human Resources Specialist

Location: Yavapai County, Arizona
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Overview

Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters (YBBBS) seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful Part-Time Human Resources Specialist to manage and enhance the organization’s HR functions. This position plays a vital role in supporting our mission to inspire and empower youth through mentorship. The HR Specialist will focus on employee relations, recruitment, compliance, and HR systems while fostering a positive workplace culture and planning activities that build team morale and engagement.

Responsibilities

  1. Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Coordinate the recruitment process, including job postings, screening, and scheduling interviews.
  • Conduct background checks and reference checks.
  • Manage onboarding processes, including orientation and new hire paperwork.
  1. Employee Relations & Culture
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, benefits, and other inquiries.
  • Support conflict resolution and promote effective communication within the organization.
  • Develop initiatives to foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Plan and organize employee gatherings, appreciation events, and team-building activities.
  1. Compliance & Recordkeeping
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
  • Assist in implementing and updating HR policies and procedures.
  1. Benefits Administration
  • Assist employees with benefits enrollment and provide ongoing benefits support.
  • Manage benefit-related communication and updates with third-party vendors.
  1. Training & Development
  • Coordinate staff development opportunities, including trainings and workshops.
  • Help track and evaluate professional development outcomes.
  1. Administrative Support
  • Manage timekeeping and payroll systems in collaboration with finance staff.
  • Prepare and maintain HR-related reports and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in human resources or related field. Nonprofit experience is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of HR principles, labor laws, and best practices.
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in HR software, Microsoft Office Suite, and database management.
    • High level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive information.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Part-time, 15-20 hours per week, in-office

Compensation

Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience.
