Over 15 years ago George Timmons read an advertisement about the Yavapai County Big Brothers/Big Sisters school-based mentoring program. As a reading coach at Taylor Hicks Elementary School (volunteering twice a week for up to four hours a day), it seemed ideal; he could stay at Taylor Hicks but rather than helping random students he would be assigned to a few the organization identified as in special need of a Big Brother.
“It’s been just grand,” Timmons said of spending one-on-one time reading books, working on math homework, playing games or just sharing lively conversation. “You just fall in love with these little kids.” Read more…
