Amari and Greg have been matched through Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters since October of 2013. Due to family adversity in the past, Amari needed an encouraging Big Brother who could get him outdoors and away from his comfort zone of video games. Greg, a truck driver for ACE Hardware, wanted to provide a positive influence on a child in need, and be able to look back at the experience with a sense of accomplishment. Now a year later, it is safe to say this sense accomplishment has been met.
Little Amari does very well in school! He is exceptionally smart and in the Gifted Program. Greg is extremely encouraging to his little, and praises his personality, and willingness to learn new things. Amari is also a stand-out athlete and wants to be like Vince Carter of the Memphis Grizzlies. His Big believes in his capabilities as a person, athlete, and scholar, and cheers on Amari at every one of his games and functions.
This amazing match has gotten stronger and stronger as time progressed. They do activities such as hockey, go to the movies, attending sports events, fishing, canoeing, mini golfing, and attending YBBBS Events such as the annual September Picnic. Amari’s mom couldn’t be happier with the match, and admires how supportive Greg is to Amari.
