Mark and Amy have a strong desire to help others. As parents they wanted to share this with their three daughters. It was Amy’s idea to become involved with Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters, but Mark quickly agreed to a family match. The couple had been looking for an avenue to help children in our community, this transpired into becoming a Big Family through YBBBS. Their little, Sarah age 12, needed the experience of a healthy family relationship. Sarah lives with her mother and does not have a consistent relationship with her father.
The Kille family is active and enjoys many outdoor and indoor activities. They frequently share their time with Sarah. The family has been matched with Sarah for almost two years and are going strong with their relationship. They enjoy cooking together, bowling, swimming, playing board games, and making arts and crafts. Since being matched with the Kille family, Sarah has become a part of their positive family interactions. This is something she didn’t receive prior to this match. Amy and Mark’s daughters are very involved in this match as well. Amy states Sarah acts like an “older” sister to her girls. She is polite and well mannered and shows independence that will help her as an adult. Sarah states “My Bigs are awesome. They make me feel very special.”
The best Bigs bring their Littles into their everyday lives. All it takes is 8 hours a month to show a child a better world.
