Jewels sparkles like her name, her ponytail bobbing, as she talks about her past, present and future activities. Although she’s only 11 years old, Jewels has been places. She’s visited her grandparents in Italy and has learned through homeschooling about the many states her family traveled through one summer, from New York to Florida.
But Jewels’ family dynamic has changed. Her mother now works outside the home and can no longer homeschool Jewel and her older brother and younger sister. A people person, Jewels has a list of things she either already has been involved in or wants to try when she hits sixth grade this fall. The list includes Yearbook club editor, cheer, volleyball, soccer, basketball, robotics, choir and Student Council. A Big Sister could encourage Jewels in her endeavors.
She enjoys quiet activities, too. Jewels is an avid reader – Black Beauty is her latest book – and she loves DIY projects like decorating her school supplies and her bedroom. Her room’s decor features a large fabric wall hanging of an elephant. Cat posters abound, but there’s one of humpback whales, too. A Big Sister might help Jewels with DIY projects.
Jewels also would love for a Big Sister to take her to the mall.
