Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters names executive director; announces new career pathways program

Robin Layton

PRESCOTT, AZ — The Board of Directors of Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters (YBBBS) is proud to announce the appointment of Robin Layton as the organization’s permanent Executive Director. Layton has served as Interim Executive Director since June and has been a steadfast leader during a period of transition and growth for the agency.

The announcement was made at the agency’s Annual Gala, A Night of Hope, held at the Prescott Resort on November 15.

“We are thrilled to announce Robin Layton as the new permanent Executive Director for YBBBS,” shared Wendy Ross, YBBBS board chairperson. “Her dedication to this organization for the last 8-plus years and her deep passion for our mission of mentoring youth in our communities make her the perfect choice at the right time in our history. We are confident that under her dynamic leadership, we will continue to expand our impact and create even more opportunities for the youth we serve.”

Layton, a former Big Sister and longtime nonprofit leader, stepped into the interim role with a focus on operational stability, community engagement, and advancing the agency’s strategic goals. Under her leadership, YBBBS has continued to enhance its programming, expand partnerships, and increase outreach efforts to meet the growing needs of youth across Yavapai County. She has worked with the agency in many capacities since 2017.

“I am honored and grateful for the trust the board has placed in me,” said Layton. “YBBBS is built on the transformative power of mentoring, and I look forward to continuing the work of supporting our Bigs, Littles, families, and community partners. Together, we will strengthen the pathways that help young people realize their potential.”

New career pathways initiative

YBBBS is excited to launch our new career pathways initiative, designed to give youth hands-on experience and exposure to a variety of career fields.

Through structured internships, career days, and mentoring opportunities at local businesses, participants can explore their interests, build professional skills, and connect with industry professionals.

This initiative not only helps youth gain real-world experience but also empowers them to make informed decisions about their future careers. By partnering with local employers, we aim to create meaningful pathways from education to employment, fostering confidence, professional growth, and long-term success.

“To honor the memory of our board chairperson, Jonathan Knight, we are naming our new career initiative The Jonathan Knight Big Futures Career Program. It was Jonathan’s idea to focus our Big Futures career program on providing practical internships, job shadow days, and career experiences for our youth aged 14 to 24. We’re proud to continue with Jonathan’s vision and kick off this program in January,” said Layton.
